Change Advisory Board (CAB)

Supporting responsible change across KAUST IT

What is the CAB?

The Change Advisory Board (CAB) is a cross-functional group that ensures IT changes at KAUST are planned, assessed, and implemented responsibly. CAB reviews all major changes to minimize disruption, manage risk, and ensure transparency. It brings together representatives from across the IT Department to support balanced decision-making and efficient coordination.

Who is part of the CAB?

Each IT team appoints a representative to the CAB. The Chief Information Officer designates a CAB Chair to lead discussions and ensure alignment with university priorities.

What is the Emergency CAB (ECAB)?

When a change is urgent or carries high risk, the Emergency CAB (ECAB) is activated. Led by the CAB Chair, ECAB ensures fast, informed decision-making while maintaining service integrity. Additional members may be involved depending on the nature of the change.

How are IT Alerts related to CAB?

CAB reviews whether changes require communication to the KAUST community. When needed, IT Alerts are issued for:

  • Scheduled maintenance or service changes
  • Targeted updates for specific audiences (e.g., faculty, students, building occupants)
  • Urgent disruptions or unplanned outages

All alerts are crafted to provide clear, timely information and are shared via KAUST communication channels and posted on the IT Website.
