Antivirus Protection at KAUST
KAUST protects all KAUST-managed computers with CrowdStrike, the university’s standard antivirus and endpoint protection solution.
Quick Answer
Using a KAUST-managed computer? You are already protected with CrowdStrike. No action is required.
Using a personal device? KAUST no longer provides antivirus software for personal use, so you should install and maintain a trusted antivirus solution of your choice.
Overview

KAUST Information Technology is committed to providing secure and reliable protection for KAUST-managed devices. As part of this approach, CrowdStrike is the standard antivirus solution used across all KAUST-managed devices.

Antivirus software helps protect devices from malware, ransomware, phishing, spyware, and other malicious threats. Keeping devices protected helps reduce risk to both university and personal data.

What This Means for You
KAUST-Managed Devices

All KAUST-managed computers are automatically protected by CrowdStrike.

You do not need to install or manage antivirus software yourself. CrowdStrike runs silently in the background to provide ongoing protection and threat detection.

Personal Devices

Support for Cortex XDR on personal devices has ended.

If you previously installed the complimentary version of Cortex from the IT website, we recommend uninstalling it.

To continue protecting your personal device, please choose and maintain a trusted antivirus solution that meets your needs and keep it regularly updated.

Why CrowdStrike?

KAUST IT previously supported both Cortex XDR and CrowdStrike for endpoint protection.

To simplify management and maintain consistent security standards across KAUST-managed devices, CrowdStrike is now the sole enterprise antivirus solution. It provides advanced threat detection, real-time protection, and low impact on system performance.

Recommended Action for Personal Devices
Important

KAUST no longer provides antivirus software for personal use.

If you use a personal device for academic or professional work, we strongly encourage you to install and maintain a trusted antivirus application and make sure it stays up to date.

Security Tip

Antivirus is one part of staying secure. Keeping your operating system and applications updated also helps reduce risk from known vulnerabilities.
