Printing at KAUST is changing, and it is intentional.
The Green Printing Program is part of a broader shift to make IT services more efficient, more secure, and more sustainable across the University. It is not just about replacing printers. It is about improving how printing works for everyone, from individuals to entire departments.
By moving to a more secure and flexible printing model, KAUST can reduce waste, improve document protection, make better use of energy and consumables, and better understand printing trends over time to support long-term service improvements.
Instead of printing immediately, documents are securely held until they are released at a printer. This helps reduce forgotten print jobs, repeated printing, and unnecessary waste across campus.
The new generation of KAUST printers is designed to use energy, ink, and toner more efficiently. Combined with secure release printing, this supports KAUST’s sustainability goals while reducing unnecessary consumption.
Green Printing gives departments and KAUST IT better visibility into printing usage over time. This helps improve planning, identify usage trends, reduce operational costs, and support a more predictable and reliable service.
Documents are not printed until someone logs in at the printer and releases them. This helps protect sensitive information and reduces the risk of documents being picked up or left behind unintentionally.
You can print from KAUST-provided computers, personal laptops and desktops, and mobile phones or tablets. Laptops and desktops use print.kaust.edu.sa, while phones and tablets use the MyQ X app.
You can locate the nearest available printers across campus using the printer finder tool.
Select at least the Building, and optionally refine by Level or Room to find the most convenient printer.
To print from a phone or tablet, install the MyQ X app and sign in with your KAUST username and password.

Green Power Consumption: the new printers are designed to consume less energy, reducing our environmental impact.
Enhanced Security: to protect queued print jobs, ensuring your documents remain confidential.
Smart Printing Features: we have optimized the printers to support new smart printing features allowing users to authenticate devices using QR codes and to print directly from their mobile devices using the KAUSTCentral App.
Shared A3/A4 Printers: new printers will be installed on each floor in academic and admin buildings, with additional units in high-demand areas. Both old and new printers (Smart and Green printers) will run until the program phases out all old Smart printers to minimize the impact of this transition.
Single-User Printers: These will be reduced based on usage data. All affected printers' owners will be contacted for planning.
