Before you begin:
Check which operating system your Apple device is running:
- Click on the Apple Logo (Found at the top left-hand side of the screen)
- Select 'About this Mac'
- A new window will appear and state which MacOS version is currently installed
Prior to upgrading your Apple device, please ensure that your device is connected to power, has a stable internet connection and has been backed up on an external drive or reliable cloud service.
Upgrading your MacOS:
- Click on the Apple Logo (Found at the top left-hand side of the screen)
- Select 'System Preferences'
- On the left-hand side tab, select the 'General' Tab
- Select' Software Update'
- Your Apple device will automatically check and display the latest compatible versions of macOS. If your device is eligible, it will display either of the following macOS upgrades:
MacOS Upgrade Currently Available through Self-Service app:
- Sonoma
Note:
If you do not see the option of a macOS listed above in the 'Software Update' menu, indicates that your device is an older Apple model and will have to be replaced. If your Apple device was provided by KAUST, contact your business administrator to help with the replacement process. If the device is personal to you, then the device will be blocked from accessing the KAUST Network as per the KAUST Minimum Security Standard

- Select the most recent macOS upgrade and click
'Upgrade Now' to download and install the upgrade. Follow the on-screen prompts for a safe upgrade process.
