Quick Setup Guide

About 10–15 minutes Works on mobile & laptop

Before You Start

  • Your access point and network cable, both included in the box
  • Your home wall network port active (see Step 2 if unsure)
  • A phone or laptop to complete the setup

1 Step 1

Unpack the Box

Your box includes:

  • 1x Cisco access point
  • 1x Network cable
Keep the packaging in case you need to return or move the device.

2 Step 2

Place and Connect the Access Point

  1. Choose a central location in your home for the best wireless coverage.
  2. Plug the network cable into the access point's network port (labeled in yellow).
  3. Plug the other end of the cable into your wall network port.
  4. The LED should start blinking. If it does not blink, your wall port may need to be activated.
  5. Wait 3 to 5 minutes for the device to initialize.
If the LED does not blink after plugging in, contact KAUST IT to have your wall port activated before continuing.

Once ready, you will see these two networks appear:

2.4 GHz
Cisco-HomeWiFi-2.4
5 GHz
Cisco-HomeWiFi-5
These are the default network names. The next steps will guide you through customizing them.

3 Step 3

Log In to the Access Point

  1. Connect your phone or laptop to Cisco-HomeWiFi-2.4 using the default credentials below.
    Network Cisco-HomeWiFi-2.4
    Password default@1234
  2. Open the access point configuration page using one of these two methods:
    Option A
    Scan the QR code on the back of the device.
    Option B
    Browse to the address below. Replace XXXX with the device name shown on the label.
    https:// HAP-XXXX.kaust.edu.sa
  3. You may see a certificate warning. This is expected and safe. Click “Accept and proceed.”
  4. On the login screen, enter the following:
    Username admin
    Password MAC address printed on the back of the device

4 Step 4

Change Your Admin Password

You will be prompted to change your password immediately after your first login.

  1. Go to the CONFIGURATION tab.
  2. Update the username and password fields.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Log back in using your new credentials.
Keep these credentials somewhere safe. You will need them if you ever need to adjust your network settings.

5 Step 5

Customize Your Wi-Fi Name and Password

  1. Go to the CONFIGURATION tab.
  2. In the left menu, select SSID, then 2.4GHz.
  3. Make sure both Enabled and Broadcast are checked.
  4. In the SSID field, enter your preferred network name.
  5. Confirm that both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK are set to Enabled.
  6. In the WPA Passphrase field, enter your new Wi-Fi password.
  7. Repeat these steps for the 5GHz network.
  8. If you have more than one access point, repeat for each device.
You can reuse your previous Wi-Fi name and password to avoid reconnecting all your devices.
Giving your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks the same name and password makes connecting easier across all your devices.

Setup Complete

Your KAUST home network is configured and ready to use.
