KAUST IT is advising members of the academic and business communities to update the Duo Mobile app on their smartphones and tablets before February 2, 2026.
Cisco Duo has announced that a security certificate used by Duo will expire on February 2, 2026. If Duo Mobile is not updated to a current version before this date, multi-factor authentication may fail, which could prevent access to KAUST systems and services that require Duo.
Please update Duo Mobile today on every phone or tablet you use for KAUST authentication:
Updating early helps avoid last-minute access issues.
Updating Duo Mobile is part of the same routine we all follow to keep our apps secure and working properly.
Just like Duo, many commonly used apps are updated regularly, for example:
Keeping apps updated helps protect your data, improves reliability, and ensures compatibility with newer devices and services.
Important note for older devices:
Some older phones and tablets can no longer install newer versions of apps because they do not support recent iOS or Android updates.
Devices that cannot update Duo Mobile will need to be replaced with a newer, supported mobile device. KAUST IT does not provide mobile phones or tablets.
What happens if I don’t update Duo Mobile by February 2, 2026?
Authentication requests may fail after the certificate expires, which could prevent you from logging in to KAUST systems that require Duo.
Do I need to re-enroll or reactivate Duo after updating?
No. Updating Duo Mobile does not affect your Duo enrollment or your linked KAUST account.
Will Duo Mobile update automatically?
It may, if automatic app updates are enabled on your device. We recommend manually checking to confirm the update is completed.
