KAUST IT would like to inform the Community of a Recall program by Apple for their 15-inch MacBook Pro (sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017). The laptops are being recalled due to an issue with the battery; it may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.
If you are using a business laptop affected by the recall, you should have received an email from KAUST IT regarding the plan to replace the battery, until then we advise you to please refrain from using it to avoid any risk.
If you are outside the Kingdom, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store near you to get the battery replaced under this recall program.
If you are using a personal laptop affected by the recall, please visit any authorized Apple Service Center in Jeddah to get it replaced. If you purchased your laptop from the IT Store, the battery will be replaced by them, free of charge.
Please Note: As a precaution, travelers will not be permitted to carry these MacBook Pro models as checked-in or carry-on luggage on any flights unless the battery has been replaced. Passengers carrying these MacBook Pro models should verify with Apple if their device is affected by the recall, as they may be asked to show such verification at check-in, or show that the battery has been replaced.
