Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 will no longer be supported with any future updates and security patches beyond January 14, 2020 (support article). In order to prepare for this change, users are requested to proceed with upgrading their devices. 

Devices that cannot be upgraded due to hardware limitations must be replaced prior to January 2020. After the cut-off date, Windows 7 machines are at risk of disconnectionfrom the KAUST network in order to protect KAUST from any security vulnerabilities or software bugs. 

To check your Windows version, you can use this keyboard shortcut:

Step 1: ‘cmd’ button (⌘)/Windows button + ‘R’ button
Step 2: In the Run Window, type: winver
Step 3: Windows version will display on screen
