This is to inform you about an on-going Security incident that may affect your phone.

We have been notified that an ex-KAUST employee's phone number has been sending malicious links to members of the KAUST community using the popular chat application WhatsApp.

Please be mindful when tapping-on or accessing links sent in WhatsApp chats as it may be a Social Engineering attack attempted by an attacker posing to be someone they are not.

Social Engineering is the art of manipulating and extracting sensitive information often by tricking and fooling victims. An attacker can then use other resources to hack into devices and systems using other techniques.

Any digital communication platform can be used by attackers to target us, so be alert and aware.
