We know that working from home can be a challenging adjustment.

The Information Security Department at KAUST IT aims to enable you to work as securely as possible from your home. Whether you are at home on-campus or off-campus, you should be alert and aware.

As you may already know, technology alone cannot fully protect you, and you are the best defense. Attackers have learned that the easiest way to get what they want is to target you—rather than your computer or other devices. Especially during the current COVID-19 outbreak, cyber-criminals are using motivational factors like fear, urgency and curiosity to lure users into clicking on links and providing usernames and passwords. We have seen a significant increase in such emails since January.

Please be vigilant when clicking on links of meetings using collaboration tools and note that—regardless what the label of the link says—when you hover over it, the domain for each tool should begin with the following:

Ultimately, the greatest defense against attackers is you, the Human Firewall.

The best part is that all of these steps not only help secure your work, but they will make you and your family safer and more secure as you create a cyber-secure home.
