Microsoft has announced the End of Support for Windows 10 will be on the 14 of October 2025. With support ending, services such as security patches and regular software updates will be discontinued. KAUST IT recommends that you upgrade your devices to Windows 11 by following the steps below:
a. On your desktop, press the windows key (⊞) or (⌘ on Apple Keyboards) + (R) Key
b. The (Run) Window will appear, type (winver) and press the Enter Key
c. Your Windows version will be displayed in a separate tab
Some devices will not support the upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware limitations. We recommend that you check the minimum hardware requirements to run Windows 11 before initiating an upgrade.
When you are ready for the upgrade, back up your data and log a ticket with IT through the KAUST IT Website using VITA our chatbot or calling our Service Desk 808-0910.
Devices with unsupported hardware should be replaced before the End-of-Support date of October 14, 2025. You may order your replacement by visiting the IT Catalogue under the procurement portal or by contacting your department administrator. Devices running an older operating system may be blocked from accessing the KAUST Network beyond the End of Support date as per KAUST Minimum Security Standard; this is to protect KAUST from any security vulnerabilities or software bugs.
Please note that all Apple Intel-based hardware running Windows 10 will not support the upgrade to Windows 11 and should be replaced by hardware that is supported.
For any questions and concerns, please contact the IT Service Desk for further information and steps regarding the End of Support of Windows 10.
