Microsoft has announced the End of Support for Windows 10 will be on October 14, 2025. With support ending, services such as security patches and regular software updates will be discontinued. KAUST IT recommends that you upgrade your devices to Windows 11 by following the steps below: 

2.  Perquisites: 

Before proceeding with the upgrade to Windows 11, it is essential to back your files to avoid any potential loss of data during the upgrade process. We recommend using an external hard drive, cloud storage solutions or Atempo Lina (our centralized backup service).  

KAUST IT will not be responsible for any data lost during the upgrade process. 

3.  Upgrade Process: 

KAUST IT will roll out the Windows 11 upgrade in phases for all compatible devices. You will receive an email notification when the automated upgrade process is scheduled to begin on your device. 

If your hardware does not support the upgrade: 

KAUST IT will also notify you if your device does not support the Windows 11 upgrade, and should be replaced before the End-of-Support date of October 14, 2025. You may order your replacement device by visiting the IT Catalog under the procurement portal or by contacting your department administrator. Devices running an older operating system may be blocked from accessing the KAUST Network beyond the End of Support date as per KAUST Minimum Security Standard; this is to protect KAUST from any security vulnerabilities or software bugs.  

4. What about Apple based Devices running Windows 10?  

Please note that Apple devices with Intel-based hardware are not compatible with the Windows 11 upgrade and should be replaced with hardware that supports Windows 11.
