29 April, 2025

Dear KAUST Community,

To help you enjoy a faster and more reliable internet experience at home, KAUST IT has put together this guide with some essential tips and best practices for optimizing your home Wi-Fi network.

Here’s an overview of what you will find:

  • Use a wired connection whenever possible – Plug your Wi-Fi router directly into the Ethernet port (1 Gbps connection).
  • Update your router and security settings – Ensure your router uses WPA2 or WPA3 encryption and is updated with the latest firmware.
  • Optimize your network load – Limit the number of devices connected and use a dual-band router.
  • Choose the right frequency – Prefer 5 GHz Wi-Fi for faster, less congested connections.
  • Set up your router correctly – To learn more on setting up your router, check out the WiFi Quick Start Guide.
