Quick question: if your KAUST laptop needed a repair, an upgrade, or a swap tomorrow, would IT know exactly which device to grab? For a lot of the community, the honest answer is "probably not." Device records drift over time. People change roles, pick up a second monitor setup, hand a laptop down to a colleague, or quietly retire an old desktop that's still technically assigned to them.
That's what this review is about. If you use a KAUST-managed laptop, desktop, or scientific workstation, we're asking you to spend a few minutes in My IT Assets Services confirming which device is your Main Device and flagging anything on your list that doesn't look right.
Your Main Device isn't just a label. It's the device IT prioritizes when something needs fixing, and it shapes future planning around refreshes and replacements. Accurate records mean faster support, smarter planning, and a cleaner inventory across the university, so it's worth the few minutes it takes.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
Head straight to My IT Assets Services if you already know your way around, or start at the KAUST Portal if you'd rather take the scenic route and learn where it lives for next time.
Spotted something that isn't yours, or a device you handed back ages ago that's still floating on your list? Select it and click Report Discrepancy. No ticket to write, no email to draft, it flags the item directly for the team to review.
Working on a shared lab or research workstation? Don't select it as your personal Main Device, that designation is meant for the device you individually use most. What matters instead is that the workstation is correctly assigned in our records, usually to the lab manager or PI responsible for it, so IT knows exactly who to contact when it needs attention.
A couple of things worth knowing: selecting a Main Device doesn't create a replacement request or guarantee an upgrade, it just tells us which device is your primary one for support and planning. And if you only have one assigned device, go ahead and select it anyway, confirming the record is accurate is the point, even when there's no real choice to make.
Stuck, confused, or not sure which device is really yours anymore? Start with VITA, and if VITA can't sort it out, it'll connect you straight to the IT Service Desk.
